Evolution of Purple

It's no secret that purple has been around for quite some time. Since purple has been branded with royalty and nobility, this color has been associated with kings and queens from different generations. The color purple can even be traced back in the bible as the garment Jesus had to wear during his crucifixion. (John 19:2) Nevertheless, purple debuted in fashion during the 1850s. According to CNN," “The color mauve was all the rage in the mid-1850s, as ladies of fashion adopted the new hues to come from the French and Swiss textile mills,” said Lee Blaszczyk. " Even though mauve is a certain hue in the purple family, it began an increase in the desire to see true purple fashion products showcased by different designers.

Purple has not always been an easy color to find. With royalties only being allowed to wear this color for centuries, William Henry Perkin changed the accessibility of purple without even trying. After an Easter break, his chemistry assignment took a turn, and a dark sludge was left in his test tube. The concoction left a vivid purple stand on his hands and didn't transfer after hitting clothing products. With only natural substances available during this time, colors were considered dull, and clothing was expensive. With synthetic purple now being an option for fashionable dresses, this color continues to increase and will be an all-time favorite trendy color for years to come.

Purple has always been a color on the runway, whether we choose to see it or not. With technological advancements, different shades and hues grace the runway year after year. With the 2024 season approaching, all purple will be considered top-tier for fashionable events or streetwear options. "From the runways of fashion shows to the interior design of homes, purple will be the trend that dominates all other trends. Whether it's an alluring smoky purple, a delicate lavender, or a deep and mysterious purple, these hues can bring a mysterious, romantic, and noble atmosphere to any environment." (Tremont) Purple has evolved to keep up with the times; now it's time for you to develop and crave all things purple for all your 2024 fashion needs.
